Roads Scholar #4: Temporary Traffic Control for Local Agencies

About the Course:

This course is Based on Part 6 of the 2023, 11th edition of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, (MUTCD).

Topics May Include:

  1. Fundamental Principles of Traffic Control
  2. Elements of Temporary Traffic Control Zones
  3. Worker and Road User Safety Considerations
  4. Temporary Traffic Control Devices
  5. Temporary Traffic Control Activities
  6. Typical Applications for Local Agency Work
  7. Traffic Control for Incident
One year of field experience is recommended, but not required for this course; however, completion of the “LTAP Mini-Workshop with Flagger“ is recommended in order to understand the concepts presented in this course. This course does not qualify as a required certification for contractors under DOTD Rules.

Who should attend?

It is intended for engineers, technicians, inspectors, and maintenance personnel whose duties require an intermediate understanding of traffic control in work zones, including design, setup, and management of traffic controls.

Instructor: Nicholas “Nick” Verret, Jr. P.E.

Mr. Verret has been a registered professional engineer in Louisiana since 1984. Following a 31+ year career with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) in the areas of highway construction, design, and administration, he served as the LTAP Program Manager from October 2011 until December 2012. He was later appointed as Director of Public Works for the Parish of Natchitoches until stepping down from that position in July 2017. Mr. Verret currently serves as City Engineer for the City of Natchitoches. He has developed pavement management programs for both the city and the parish. Since 2018, Mr. Verret has taught numerous LTAP pavement classes, but also has many years of experience in all aspects of highway safety on both the state and local agency level.

Fees & Cancellations for RS#4:

$35 for Public Agencies / $70 Private Agencies
Fees cover all materials, breakfast, and lunch. Credit card payments are accepted through the online registration system. Checks or money orders are also accepted.

Registration is required one week in advance of class. Failure to cancel at least 72 hours prior will result in a forfeit of the registration fee. Participant substitution is available.

Professional Development Hours (PDHs):

Professional Development Hour (PDH) credit will be awarded as follows: six (6) PDHs for RS#4. The Louisiana Transportation Research Center (LTRC) is a Louisiana State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, approved Sponsor/Provider of Continuing Professional Development.
