Roads Scholar #2:
Maintenance of Asphalt Roads
About the Course
When it comes to asphalt roads for which your agency is responsible, do you ever experience deja vu - that feeling that you're continually performing the same maintenance activities over and over on the same roads? Well, maybe there's a better way to do this work that will keep you from having to come back again and again. That's what this course is designed to do - to help you implement procedures for more effe tive maintenance of these roads that will extend their service life without the need for contsant repetition.
Participants will learn the following:
-Basic types of asphalt pavements, the components of each and factors that affect their performance.
-The identification of distress that commonly occur in asphalt pavements and how to effectively address each.
-Techniques for more effective patching of potholes and base failures on asphalt roads.
-How to perform crack sealing on asphalt pavements.
-The importance of proper drainage.
-Having a safety mindset in performing all of your maintenance activities.
Who should attend?
This course is designed for local public agency employees and supervisors who perform routing maintenance activities on asphalt roads. Engineers and managers at higher levels of responsibility in local public works agencies will likely receive greater benefit from other LTAP courses relative to asphalt pavements, particularly those in the areas of "Transportation Asset Management" and "Pavement Preservation".
