LTAP in Partnership with FHWA Resource Center, FHWA Louisiana Division Office and Destination Zero Deaths presents:
Combating Rural Roadway Departures

About the Course

Rural roadway departures make up a third of U.S. traffic fatalities - about 30 people a day. In Louisiana, about 58.26% of the roadway fatalities resulted from roadway departures.

This workshop will discuss how road safety stakeholders and local agencies can help reduce rural roadway departure deaths and serious injuries in Louisiana. Topics include:

- Focus on Reducing Rural Roadway Departures (FoRRRwD): Every Day Counts
- The Four Pillars of Safety
- Keeping Vehicles on the Road
- Reducing the Potential for Crashes
- Minimizing the Severity of Crashes
- Louisiana's Roadway Departure Implementation Plan

A field assessment will be conducted to provide participants an opportunity to physically evaluate issues on local roads and recommend proven safety countermeasures to address these issues.

Who Should Attend?

This workshop is designed for road safety practitioners, parish and city engineers, public works employees, law enforcement officers, health professionals, educators and other local agency stakeholders who are vested in improving road safety in their respective communities.
